Remember When Rihanna Danced on Dinner Tables at the Met Ball?

From the cape dress that launched a thousand memes (a 55-pound, fox fur-lined creation by Chinese couturier Guo Pei) to a Comme des Garçons look fresh off the runway last year in tribute to founder Rei Kawakubo, Rihanna’s Met Ball six-year red carpet reign has thus far been iconic.

But as the CR star joins Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney as co-chair for the Costume Institute’s annual benefit gala this spring, anticipation has never been greater. Though rather than wondering what she’ll wear to shut down the steps of the Met (which whatever it is will likely have a sexy pop of Savage) our thoughts are on the main event—what happens when the museum’s doors close and the cameras turn off. Or at least for the night.

“I can’t really walk in it without any help—but it’s so worth it,” Rihanna said mid-event in 2015 before trading her 16-foot golden train for a custom bustier by Maison Margiela by John Galliano and palazzo pants from the house’s Fall 2015 collection. To celebrate the evening’s theme, “China: Through the Looking Glass,” a vintage headpiece crowned her head along with red opera gloves by Cornelia James.

It was just one of her four looks of the night, and as the songstress took the stage to perform a medley of “Diamonds,” “Pour It Up,” and “Bitch Better Have My Money,” all eyes were on her. Literally. As everyone from CR girls Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé to Justin Bieber and Olivier Rousteing watched in delight.

As a finale, Rihanna turned dinner into a literal runway, stepping onto a nearby super table to perform her last few bars while the crowed ate her up.

Here’s looking to the second course—whatever that may be—next week.
