Alexander Wang Took His Squad on a Road Trip to Coachella

Alexander Wang is a designer who deviates from convention. From hosting his outrageous #Wangfest extravaganza in Bushwick last year, to announcing he will no longer be showing at NYFW, you never know what you’re going to get with the American fashion designer.

So naturally, for his third collection with adidas Originals, he said sayonara to shooting a traditional lookbook, and instead enlisted the help of photographer Brianna Capozzi to photograph his glamazonian Wang Squad on a wild, wild bus trip from L.A. to Coachella. Filled with nothing but pieces from his latest range, Wang and his squad were left to use collection pieces as forms of trade for gas, directions, and food.

Along the way, CR girls like Binx Walton, Hanne Gabby Odiele, Lexi Boling, Issa Lish and Cat McNeil, posed for Capozzi in gas stations, mini marts, and even a waterpark in looks styled by Haley Wollens all documented on social media. “By framing his new collection as pieces to be bartered, traded, or given away, Wang establishes new standards of fashion as commodity,” adidas wrote in a press release. “Something flawed, might actually be valuable.”

It is through these imperfections that the collection still packs a subversively chic punch as to be expected from Wang. Using pixelated graphics, uneven printing, and perma-wrinkled fabrics, he adhered to a color palette of black, white, and grey for apparel in addition to other pieces and sneakers in plum and neon red orange.

The collection arrives in stores tomorrow, April 21, 2018. Aside from being unapologetically bold, Wang also teaches us a valuable lesson. There is beauty within imperfection, and that, friends, is a cause worth the hype.
