The Eiffel Tower Was Everywhere This Season

Is there anything more iconically French than the Eiffel Tower? The historic monument is a must-see for any tourist visiting the capital, and a tried-and-true backdrop for Insta-worthy street style pics. But this season, the Eiffel Tower played a starring role during Paris Fashion Week more so than any time in recent memory.
On day one of PFW, the sparkling tower served as the breathtaking backdrop for Saint Laurent’s nighttime show, which featured—amid all the ostrich feathers and couture volumes—a black velvet bomber etched with gold Eiffel Tower motifs. Just days later, Carine wore that very same jacket to host a rave celebrating the new issue of CR Fashion Book.
The Eiffel Tower cameos did not stop there. Demna Gvasalia’s latest collection for Balenciaga had a lot going on. There were head-to-toe dollar bill prints, logo-ed handbag covers, and embellished platform Crocs. But zoom in on the opening look and you’ll notice Stella Tennant’s handbag and pocket chain boast whimsical charms including miniature Eiffel Towers. Sweet, non?
Gypsy Sport’s Rio Uribe also got creative with Eiffel Tower talismans. The disruptive designer staged a guerrilla-style runway show in the streets of Paris (his first non-NYFW presentation), and one revealing chain mesh dress was covered in dangling Eiffel Tower figurines—that didn’t cover much at all.
Clearly, the monument remains a beacon of hope and inspiration for designers—not to mention a symbol of all things French. And the world effects the Eiffel Tower, too. After the Las Vegas shooting on Sunday night, the Eiffel Tower went dark this past Monday to honor the victims of the massacre.
