Good Girls Gone Bad! An Exclusive Look at Philipp Plein’s Spring 2018 Show

START

For his second showing in New York, Philipp Plein imagined a dark and glamorous storybook fantasy. Themes of BDSM, good gone bad, and sexy disney characters were visible in every part of the show’s planning and execution.

With Nicki Minaj, Paris Hilton, 50 Cent, and many more A-listers sitting front row, the crowd itself proved to be quite the spectacle. While thousands lined 34th street outside of the Hammerstein Ballroom, hoping to peek inside, burlesque star Dita Von Teese started the party onstage in glitter lingerie, splashing around in an equally dazzling martini glass. Models walked to songs like “Mask Off” and “Wicked,” performed by Future as he grooved in a metallic coat and bedazzled jacket on the runway.

Plein’s designs featured leather bondage straps, shirts printed with a bound and gagged Alice in Wonderland, studded leather jackets, and embroidered denim. And there were four longer silhouettes, a new look for Plein. Women wore black glitter eyeliner with their hair in long, fairytale braids, while shirtless men with slicked-back hair were covered in cartoonish tattoos. Talking to the head temporary tattoo artist backstage, she told CR that the designs were both her own and Disney’s, and were set with translucent powder to help them look realistic.

Sex, glitter, and pomp defined the night. Adriana Lima kicked things off swinging her whip-like braid down the runway, followed by new mother Irina Shayk, 21 Savage, Snoop Dog’s son Cordell Broadus and his father Vernell Varnado, Jasmine Sanders, Stella Maxwell, Metro Boomin, Swae Lee, and Elsa Hosk, to name a few. Matthew Noszka walked shirtless with “good gone bad” written on his chest in red ink, and Teyana Taylor gave an incredible performance, complete with a death drop.

Whether you hate or love Philipp Plein, he doesn’t care. His vision is expensive and sexy, and with a celebrity clientele that includes Floyd Mayweather and Taylor Swift, we have a feeling that his American market is about to get a whole lot bigger.
