Dover Street Market has announced plans to open an outpost on America’s West Coast. Founder Rei Kawakubo is designing a 10,000-square foot retail space in Los Angeles’ downtown Arts District. The store’s exact location has yet to be named, but the space is said to be open for business in March 2018.

Speaking exclusively to WWD, Kawakubo’s husband and DSM’s chief executive officer, Adrian Joffe explained that the new store will be unlike any of the other Dover Street Market outposts in New York, London, or Japan. The space is around a third of the size of the London flagship and will inhabit a single level, instead of being spread across a number of separate floors.

Joffe also teased to WWD that the Los Angeles space will show a “new version” of the Dover Street Market concept. The store will still be home to their signature mix of Comme des Garcons alongside a carefully curated selection of luxury brands and streetwear labels that seek to reinvent the wheel.

Kawakubo and Joffe opened the first DSM store in London in 2004. Locations in Tokyo and New York followed. A second store in Asia will open in a former army barracks in Singapore later this month.
