Yesterday at Alaïa’s Fall 2017 Haute Couture show, a special tribute was paid to Ferragamo in the form of an iconic, 92 year-old boot style. Renowned couture Azzedine Alaïa had reached out to the Italian house to pair some of his runway gowns with Ferragamo’s ‘Indiana’ shoe—a leopard print heeled boot (said to be a precursor to the pump boot) that was originally designed by Salvatore himself in 1925. Mr. Alaïa publically thanked the Ferragmo family, who made a series of the style for yesterday’s show.

Commonly worn by Hollywood megastars during the mid-1920s, the “Indiana” was but one famous style that pushed Ferragamo into the world of luxury footwear, furthering his long-lasting Los Angeles shoe atelier. The iconic shoe is now on display at Museo Salvatore Ferragamo’s “1927: The Return to Italy” exhibition, which is where it first caught Alaïa’s eye. There’s good news for those who might want a pair—and you don’t need an eBay account. The boot is currently part of “Ferragamo’s Creations,” a capsule collection that’s on sale now in both New York and Beverly Hills Ferragamo flagship boutiques.

These two houses may be quite aesthetically different, but the project is a wonderful example of true collaboration and mutual admiration between two of fashion’s foremost pioneers born decades apart. Even more than any current shoe style could, the ‘Indiana’ completed Alaïa’s femme fatales just perfectly.
