Joseph Altuzarra has announced plans to show his eponymous label’s upcoming collections in Paris. The news marks a homecoming for the designer; he grew up in the French capital, but has been based in New York since starting his brand in 2008. The move represents his desire to expand Altuzarra internationally.
In a statement released earlier today, he explained his reasoning in greater detail. “I was born and raised in Paris and the city holds a very deep personal significance for me,” he says. “This has been a dream of mine since the very beginning and now the time feels right. I am honored to be invited by La Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to show in my hometown of Paris.”
Altuzarra is not the only American fashion house to defect to Paris. In the last year, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler have both elected to move across the pond in order to strengthen brand presence in Europe and align with the couture calendar.
