This year, the house of Dior is celebrating its 70th anniversary as well as designer Kris Van Assche’s tenth year at the helm of its menswear division. He succeeded Hedi Slimane in 2008. Over the weekend in Paris, Van Assche unveiled Dior Homme’s Spring 2018 collection which paid tribute to the landmark occasion and the house’s illustrious history.
Titled Late-Night Summer, Van Assche was inspired by imagining a young man’s first wild evening out on a hot August day. The designer said that he wanted to highlight the aesthetic legacy of the house, while also harnessing this youthful energy by creating what he calls “the look of the future.” Pre-show, Van Assche explained that he “saw this collection as being an ideal moment to take stock of the ‘savoir-faire’ DNA of the Dior Homme label. The DNA of the label is a black suit and white shirt.” To keep it up-to-speed for 2017, Van Assche added some new tweaks, playing up contrasting colors and tailoring suits even closer to the body.
In this exclusive film, watch Van Assche reflect on the past and the future for Spring 2018.
