Hinting at a Little House on the Prairie theme, Dior has just revealed that its upcoming Cruise 2018 show will be held on the Santa Monica Nature Preserve near Los Angeles. Dior is the latest in a slew of fashion houses to migrate west, following early adopters Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton. Vuitton showed their 2016 Cruise collection in Palm Springs, on the flying-saucer-esque modernist estate of the late Bob Hope.
Dior will be taking a decidedly different approach, showing its collection in an open air canyon. It is part of freshman creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s push to widen the appeal of the 70 year-old fashion house. The choice of venue might be hinting at a younger, more casual Dior. It will certainly be the first time that a fashion event has taken place on the preserve, and the first time that Dior has shown its collection on a hiking trail.
The show will take place on May 11, stay tuned to CR to see how the marriage of Dior and Malibu pans out.
