The recently launched CR 9 is dedicated entirely to one of history’s most controversial and misunderstood heroines: Marie Antoinette. In fact, her most famous quote, “let them eat cake,” was never actually uttered by the Queen and has, over time, been attributed to her by mistake. It was this lack of understanding, as much as her notoriously over-the-top personal style, that moved Carine.

For the Fall 2016 couture collections, we were able to carry over this same theme quite seamlessly, as the befallen Queen has both inspired and pervaded the current collections. Here, you’ll find models Aniek Klapwijik and Jonas Gloer playing a slightly grungier, but equally luxurious version of the young MA. Take in one-of-a-kind creations by Giambattista Valli, Alexandre Vauthier, Chanel, and more. The Rococo-style diamonds and precious-stone adornments come courtesy of Victoire de Castellane’s latest Dior High Jewelry Collection, which is aptly named after Marie Antoinette’s royal apartments in the Palace of Versailles
