Candice Swanepoel Calls Out Hypocrites on Instagram

Candice Swanepoel is no stranger to showing off her naked figure. Followers of hers on Instagram can attest that her feed has always featured a lot of skin – which is why she’s penned an open letter to recent hypocrites who’ve taken issue with her sharing breastfeeding photos of her baby son, Anaca. The new mom gave birth in October and addressed the negative backlash she’s witnessed from those who only want to see her nude in the context of art in a post on the app this morning.

“Many women today are shamed for breastfeeding in public, or even kicked out of public places for feeding their children. I have been made to feel the need to cover up and somewhat shy to feed my baby in public place, but strangely feel nothing for the topless editorials I’ve done in the name of art?” she wrote alongside a new photo of her son.

“The world has been desensitized to the sexualization of the breast and to violence on TV—why should it be different when it comes to breastfeeding? Breastfeeding is not sexual it’s natural. Those who feel it is wrong to feed your child in public need to get educated on the benefits breastfeeding has on mother and child and, in turn, on society as a whole,” she continued, before signing off with the hashtag #mothernature.

Fellow model moms Miranda Kerr and Gisele Bündchen both posted similar messages on social media after the birth of their children—and to us, what Candice proposes seems to be a fair deal for acceptance. After all, if Kim Kardashian wearing a mesh bustier to Fashion Week is celebrated for furthering Free the Nipple, surely the same sentiment should be extended to new mothers who want to use their own free nipples for their natural purpose.
