Stephen Galloway on Mick Jagger’s Movement History

START

Singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor Mick Jagger can’t ever seem to get any satisfaction. Born in an English suburb shortly outside of London, Jagger demonstrated a love for music at a young age and started playing guitar at 14 years old. Throughout his young adult years, he cultivated an enviable records collection and started a band, Little Boy Blue and The Blue Boys, with close friend Dick Taylor. Although a clever and well-liked student, Jagger, who was never one not to follow his heart, departed the London School of Economics to found The Rolling Stones with fellow bandmate Keith Richards in 1962. It wasn’t long before he catapulted to stardom with his electric stage presence and high energy dance moves.

In 1997, accomplished Ballet Frankfurt principal dancer and creative movement director Stephen Galloway was introduced to Jagger through mutual friends, and the duo developed a mutually beneficial artistic relationship. Over the course of two decades, Galloway served as choreographer for The Rolling Stones, offering artistic input on everything from onstage dance moves to music videos. In honor of the rock ‘n’ roll legend’s 77th birthday today, CR sits down with Galloway to learn a little more about Mick’s magical, hit song-inspiring moves.
