Maison Margiela Opts Out of Men’s Presentations in Paris

Maison Margiela has announced that it’s skipping the upcoming season of men’s shows in Paris for Spring-Summer 2018. The decision comes as part of a new strategy plan from its chief executive officer, Riccardo Bellini, who joined the house in March of this year. In place of a runway show, Margiela will hold a preview for buyers at the Staff International showroom from June 26 to July 23 in the French capital.

WWD reports that the cause of the abrupt change is due to the brand’s further alignment with its men’s ready-to-wear collection with its womenswear and Artisanal couture collection. Creative director John Galliano acts as the overseer of all three lines.

The house has yet to release an official statement on the move, so for now it’s unclear if the absence from the men’s show circuit is a temporary break to reshuffle or part of a more long-term policy. It has been confirmed that the maison has no plans to feature a co-ed show this upcoming September.

The Paris men’s shows begin on June 21st through to the 25th.
