We had the pleasure of streaming Prada’s Fall/Winter 2021 show here on CR. Now, we’re back to show you every look from the striking collection, entitled “Possible Feelings II: Transmute.”
This latest collaboration between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simmons turns models into leading ladies. That is to say, there is something undeniably cinematic about the mixture of print, form, and color that takes shape, especially against the ultraviolet fur-laden backdrop. The combinations provide a touch of humor and wackiness to oversized coats and furs that would normally feel sobering.
Does anyone else get a touch of Wes Anderson vibes from this?
Prada explains, “Clothes are translated from one intent to another – ornament can become functional, the pragmatic can become decorative…The obvious is re-engineered, so evening-gowns become utilitarian jumpsuits and tailored coats are proposed in a bright color or executed in paillettes.”
The jacquard knit, nylon, and sequins appear in unexpected places, transforming traditional silhouettes and pieces into something more colorful and expressive. We also revisit gloves as an accessory as seen in the Valentino Haute Couture show.
This collection feels like clothing for a main character – whether rich and deeply villainous (Look 10, maybe) or heroic and saintly (Look 36) or just the average girl with killer style (Look 17).
Prada’s latest is an impressive take on the idea of translation, but most of all, we feel transported to a world (or a set) far away.
