Building on the back of their Fall/Winter 2021 co-illustration of Prada’s menswear, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons are set to unveil their latest amidst the goings of Milan Fashion Week, further emboldening the creative pivot at the helm of their brand, while staying true to house codes and that palpable, Italian ethos.
For their first outing together, Spring/Summer 2021, there was some critique of creative imbalances, as Raf’s handprint on the collection – graphic exclamations and slashed details – seemed heavier than the traditional Prada Miuccia was holding to – archival silhouettes and fabrics. While this season will surely prove seminal to the brand, stakes are high coming into a (haltingly) post-Covid space, and a balanced creative punch is vital in determining the shape of Prada’s pandemic recovery.
Nonetheless, the coming together of Miuccia and Raf adds a modish edge to the told stories of the house, rewriting old tropes of lipstick prints and flame heels for the current zeitgeist and global, digitized audience.
