Bae Watch: Camila Morrone in CR 8

No Americana-themed issue would be complete without a tribute to one of the country’s most iconic television stars, so for CR8 Carine tapped rising model and Al Pacino’s stepdaughter, Camila Morrone to embody her vision of a 21st century Baywatch-era Pamela Anderson. Born and raised in Los Angeles, 18-year old Camila is a natural choice to pay patronage to America’s most beloved beach babe and her iconic red swimsuit. Put simply: She’s a bombshell with an angelic face and a knockout bod. We talked to Camila about what it means to be an American girl, her modelling career, and her ideal day from morning to night:

How did you start modeling?
“I did my first campaign when I was three. It was for Levi’s and I landed it because my dad was a model. Then I got booked for a job in Miami when I was 12 and everything else started happening naturally and I signed with LA Models. Recently I signed a contract with IMG Models in New York and have been slowly transitioning into the editorial world.”

How did you first come to work with Carine?
“My mom and I watched Madamoiselle C and saw that the photographer Sebastian Faena was in it. My mom is from Argentina and so is he so she knew his family and then I met him. Everything fell into place after that and he was super excited to introduce me to Carine and photograph me. Working for CR was a dream of mine after watching the film, so it couldn’t have come together in a better way.”

What was it like shooting for CR?
“It couldn’t have been a more perfect day and I loved that it was all inspired by Baywatch. The makeup was super clean and everything was so cool and colorful. I loved everything about it. The show aired in the ’90s and I was born in 1997, so it’s like I’m getting to experience all of Baywatch for the first time.”

What’s next on the horizon for you?
“I just got my first place in New York so I’m going to be spending more time there to work on my modeling career. I’m really open to anything. I’m not six feet tall and I’m a curvier than a lot of girls that you see, but I’m excited to see what comes my way.”

What’s been your career highlight so far?
“It was a really big deal for me when I was booked for VS Pink, but CR is the coolest thing I’ve done so far. I’m really excited to see the response to the story. I hope that this is the beginning of a lot more work with Carine and the whole team.”

What do you like to do when you’re not modeling?
“I’ve always really enjoyed taking pictures and I travel a lot so I used to post a lot of images on my Instagram. Then people started asking me a lot of questions about my lifestyle amongst other things, so I started a blog called You’re not really in control of anything when you’re modeling, so it’s fun to have something that’s completely mine. In the beginning I couldn’t believe anyone was actually reading it, but the response has been amazing.”

What’s your ideal day from morning to night?
“My ideal day would be to wake up and have a chai latte, go to yoga (because it’s my religion), and then go straight to the beach to hang out with friends and shoot something for my blog. Then dinner and home to bed. I absolutely love going to the beach. It’s one of the best things about living in California.”

Who are your role models?
“I love Rihanna and the way she carries herself and I also really look up to my mom. She’s my best friend.”

What does being an American girl mean to you?
“Being an American girl is something that I’m really proud of and I think I live in the best place in the world. People in Paris may beg to differ, but America is the only place to be. Sorry, Carine!”
