Now Casting: Misha Hart

Some models grow up dreaming of a life in front of the lens, while others enter the fashion world purely by chance. Glasgow native Misha Hart falls into the latter, more accidental category. When she was 18 she was working at a few different „crappy jobs,“ unsure of what direction her life should take. Then something happened that would make the decision for her; she was scouted by a model agent at No15scouts who sent her to Viva Model Management in London who signed her on the spot. “It was like this perfect opportunity just presented itself out of nowhere and I couldn’t wait to see the world,“ Hart says. Since that fateful day, she has traveled throughout Europe, North Africa, and America for various magazine editorials and runway shows for Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Courrèges. Recently, she has inked her first major campaign deal with Burberry to be the new face of its Spring 2016 campaign. Here’s more about Misha:

What was your first memory of fashion?
„I had a unique sense of style before I really knew what fashion was, but I would say my first conscious memory is of watching my older sister when I was about thirteen. She followed a lot of fashion blogs and then I learned about brands and styles through her.”

How would you describe your personal style?
“I don’t like to put boundaries on it because it’s constantly changing, but I wear a lot of black and I love almost all sleezy looking clothes. I wear a lot of vintage and men’s clothes too.”

When did you get your first big break?
“The first stand out thing I did was a Burberry show. It was so huge and crazy. I was really nervous, but I was also super excited because I knew it was going to be one hell of an experience.”

How does it feel to be the face of Burberry?
“It came out very recently and it’s taken some adjusting to get used to seeing myself everywhere, but it’s been such a great experience. I really have Mario Testino to thank because he’s the one that put me forward for the campaign. I had a go-see with him and then a week later he shot me and a bunch of other young British models for it.”

What’s been your favorite modeling career moment so far?
“Getting to travel is the best thing for me above any one moment because modeling has allowed me to go to places in the world that I never would have been to otherwise. On the flip side, traveling so much can be hard because it can make you can feel quite unstable, but I’m young and it keeps me on my toes.”

How do you stay in shape for your job?
“I basically eat as much as I want, but only healthy and really natural things. I also try to practice Pilates. I feel like it grounds me and keeps my mind as much as my body in shape.”

Who are your role models?
“I really admire women who exude power and strength like PJ Harvey and Patti Smith. I also like Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder because they seem absolutely mental, but in the best possible way.”

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“I can’t remember who said it to me, but my favorite piece of advice is to always live life on your own terms. Ever since I heard it, that’s what I’ve done and it’s been working out pretty well. People forget that you’re allowed to make your own rules.”

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of modeling?
“Any spare that time I have, I spend it writing songs and practicing with my boyfriend on our band. Our sound is influenced by punk and post-punk, but it’s also fresh and new. I’m hoping that we’ll have something that’s ready for people to listen to later this year.”

What projects do you have on the horizon?
“I’m not sure what’s in the future, but I’ve had a few really great meetings which could lead to big things. There are so many people that I would love to work with, but my dream is to work with David Bailey. His photographs are so iconic and beautiful.”

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
“I hope that in ten years time I’ll still be making music and enjoy making it. I’m not sure where I’ll be, but I hope I’ll be living a life that revolves around creativity.”
