While each year’s “song of the summer” can be debated, there’s undeniably one over-popular tune that blasts at every club, is added on every party playlist, and loops on the radio all season long. In fact, popular songs released during the season often become synonymous with the summer that defines them, and hearing a particular melody years later can conjure up warm weather memories in an instant. But this year, with clubs and bars still largely shut, concerts and other large gatherings cancelled, and the upcoming months looming with relative uncertainty, it’s hard to imagine how any one song will find a way to cement itself into pop culture. Will 2020 will be the first summer without a defining popular hit?
