At 18-years-old, Amandla Stenberg has achieved more than most people could ever dream of. She cut her teeth as a young child working at Disney, before she got her big career break in 2012 mega-hit film The Hunger Games for her portrayal of Rue. Last year, she was named ‘Feminist of the Year’ by the Ms Foundation for Women for her work as an activist; the teen is outspoken when it comes to drawing attention to the mass appropriation of black culture in the media and the duality of people holding multiple identities (she considers herself a biracial, bisexual young female).
Today, the multi-talented hyphenate can add ‘singer’ to her already impressive resume. Amandla has released a vibe-y cover of Mac DeMarco’s 2014 hit, “Let My Baby Stay,” with an accompanying music video which she directed and edited herself. The song is the soundtrack for her next movie: a teen romance called Everything Everything that’s slated for release on May 19th.
