It’s Travis Scott’s (Astro)world, and we’re just living in it.
The rapper is on fire lately: he was recently honored at the Parsons Benefit in New York City, his latest album Utopia is set to be released soon, he was just featured in the second issue of the Bottega Veneta zine, and he looks to be back with Kylie Jenner. On top of all that, Scott and Dior have collaborated on Dior’s latest men’s summer 2022 collection set to be unveiled on June 25.
This collection marks the first time Dior has collaborated with a musician for a full collection in the house’s 74-year existence. While it does mark the first partnership with a musician, Dior Artistic Director Kim Jones has harnessed the power of collaborations and worked with several pioneering personalities in the past, including connecting with visual artist KAWS, designer Yoon Ahn, and surf & streetwear trailblazer Shawn Stussy.
The partnership with Scott is the latest iteration of Jones’ collaborative efforts. And Scott is certainly another leading personality: though he’s most commonly noted for his musical efforts as a rapper, the Grammy-nominated artist is also a producer, business mogul, and designer. He is the CEO of his creative collective, Cactus Jack, which has partnered with some of the biggest companies around the world. In 2020, he founded the Cactus Jack Foundation to provide access to education and creative resources to young people. Since then, the foundation has partnered with the Parsons School of Design to establish a fashion program and launch its own HBCU scholarship program.
Fans were hoping for this collaboration prior to its announcement after Scott was spotted wearing an unreleased shirt and coat that looked to be a collaboration between Cactus Jack and Dior. While some thought it could be teasing the upcoming collab, others wondered if it was a one-off.
Scott has worked on several streetwear collaborations in the past, from BAPE to Virgil Abloh to Nike. If the past (and the Dior look he was spotted in) are any indication, we can imagine this latest Dior collection will be streetwear heavy with utilitarian silhouettes and likely influenced by his Texas roots. With Nike as one of his most well-known collabs (until now, perhaps), we’re wondering if a new sneaker will be involved as well. Will this new collection follow his traditional Western-inspired aesthetic as a nod to his Texan roots, or will he go in a completely new direction with the French house? The imprint of the logo on the unreleased coat Scott was photographed in looks similar to previous Dior collaborator Shawn Stüssy’s signature style, so we have a feeling there will indeed be an emphasis on streetwear throughout this upcoming collection.
The Dior Summer 2022 men’s collection by Kim Jones and Travis Scott will be unveiled in Paris on June 25 and on dior.com at 2:30 p.m. CET / 8:30 a.m. Eastern time. Watch it right here at CRFashionBook.com.
