Gucci and Mr. Porter Team Up for an Exclusive Capsule

For its exclusive new 43-piece capsule collection with Mr. Porter, Gucci added iconic motifs to typical prep school boy attire. Retooling classic modes of menswear with eccentric embellishments is a well-established rule in Alessandro Michele’s playbook. This time around, however, he’s made some exciting additions to the Gucci canon, with some extra special nods to English culture.The collection’s pinstripe suiting echoes a stiff private school uniform, also known as the Cambridge Jacket. The gold tracksuits are decadently reminiscent of those that might be worn on a Hackney housing estate. There are also plenty of sweaters (or “jumpers” as the British might say). Throughout, the capsule features a new Gucci wallpaper print, which depicts a cubed version of the double “G” logo, set against a rich yellow gold.Though the entire collection will likely fly off the shelves, what’s likely to sell out first is Michele’s new iteration of the Princetown loafer. This time around, it comes lined with goat hair and topped with Gucci’s signature ribbon.
