Jet-setting across the seven seas, or simply swapping neighborhood spots, What To Wear When is your weekly column for shopping inspiration.
With Paris Fashion Week just underway, there’s no better time to book a trip to the City of Light—whether you’re part of the fashion industry or not. Aside from delectable French cuisine, charming architecture, and street style fodder replete with celebrity and model sightings, Paris’ picturesque bridges—there’s a whopping 37 total that span the famous Seine river separating the Left and Right Banks—are worth the trek alone. From the remarkable Post d’léna (which dates all the way back to 1814 and links the Trocadero district to the Eiffel Tower) to the Pont Alexandre III (the arch bridge that connects the tony Champs-Élysées to the Les Invalides in the 7th arrondissement), the splendor and magic of Paris is arguably best seen not only at night, but via water.
The Seine has a long and storied history, having been a source of inspiration for artists like Henri Matisse and Frédéric Bazille and music icons like Josephine Baker, and has been the site of countless significant events throughout history (Joan of Arc’s ashes, for instance, were thrown in there in 1431). On the fashion front, the Seine has been host to affairs thrown by L’Oreal and Chanel, although the latter was simply a recreation of it at the Grand Palais. In any case, La Rive Gauche (the Left Bank) and La Rive Droite (the Right Bank) are equally enticing parts of Paris, despite the friendly competition between the two that exists among locals. Should you find yourself drawn to the populous capital city that legends like Coco Chanel and Carine call home, shop CR’s picks below and do it in style.
