Hubert de Givenchy opened his namesake fashion house in 1952 at the age of 25, the young French designer courted critical praise for his great influence on ’50s fashion. His elegant creations attracted Golden Hollywood-era actresses, including Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and Lauren Bacall, but Givenchy’s most prominent and beloved celebrity client was Audrey Hepburn. After meeting on the set of Hepburn’s 1954 film Sabrina, Givenchy went on to design the legendary black dress that she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and for six other of her films.
