Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection manipulates the concepts of proportion, surrealism, and materialization to produce a groundbreaking show that sets a new standard for the future of fashion.
Inspired by the late Italian artist Pontormo, the hysterical world of the Renaissance mannerist accentuates the versatility of Loewe by applying the eccentric nature of Anderson’s artistry to create a refreshing take on contemporary exploration.
The experimental and structural nature of the show emphasizes Anderson’s ability to combine innovation and architecture by using elements such as 3D design, exaggerated draping, and contorted silhouettes, to augment the reality of fashion, similar to the likes of Schiaparelli, Rick Owens, and Comme des Garçons. In addition, Anderson skillfully demonstrates how to push the idea of form forward while purposefully using technological devices.
The collection’s commitment to the use of structure and deconstruction play a critical role in its message as classic silhouettes are reinterpreted in the form of maxi dresses with innovative thigh cut-outs, jean jackets reconstructed as backward mini dresses or oversized capes, and coats alongside gowns detailed with integrated 3D metallic breastplates.
The unconventional plays with light fabrics and ribbed textures showcase the ingenious craftsmanship applied throughout the collection. Concepts such as colors rooted in psychedelia, dainty heels shaped like egg yolks, and a shell of a miniature male torso being carried in place of a Goya bag, make each look more intriguing than the last while highlighting Anderson’s ability to create a collection where every look can thrive on its own.
