In Donatella Versace’s latest Spring/Summer 2022 collection for her eponymous house, the show seamlessly transitioned from all black, leather looks to classic Donatella-era extravagance with bright, neon hues and unique patterns. As more and more looks were introduced, the same occurs with colors, as monochromatic back-to-back looks are shown, featuring familiar faces like Naomi Campbell, Adut Akech, Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, Lourdes Leon, and Emily Ratajkowski.
The show opened with shirtless muscular men clad in Versace boxers and black slacks providing movement to a giant Versace silk scarf that blanketed above the entire runway. A section of the show was dedicated to the classic LBD or all-black uniform where looks were shown with a few detailed splashes of color or print. Following their loved platform heels at the house’s Fall/Winter 2021 show, a new iteration of the Versace platform was shown as sky-high heels and sandals made their way down the runway.
As the show went on, slowly more and more garments with color were added, and eventually, all the looks were screaming with bright, neon, Miami shades, reminiscent of 1980’s Versace. Elsewhere, the makeup looks for the show were paired with the looks perfectly, with diffused and soft colorful eyeshadow and a glowy base.
The silhouettes of the show transitioned from larger, modern menswear shapes with big blazers and flared pants to skin-tight, glittery mini skirts and high-waisted shorts. These looks consisted of unique, but classic Versace patterns in monochromatic colors. Silk and satin were paired with sequins and glitter for ultra-luxe extravagance.
The colorful looks come in rainbow order, and have a glamorous end of coming full-circle back to black, with sparkling, floor-length evening gowns. The show ended with Dua Lipa modeling a hot pink sparkling chainmail dress, with a waist cut out and bustier top for a sultry, yet ornate look. The Italian heritage house’s latest collection called back to the heyday of the Versace house. Harnessing both Versace’s sleek sexiness alongside a unique sense of vibrancy inherent to the house, the runway presentation reconnected Versace with its roots in a modern light.
