Inside the Met Gala’s Star-Studded Afterparties

Devoted Met Gala fans will surely know that the highly-anticipated red carpet parade only tells half of the story for fashion’s biggest night. Following the celebrities’ jaunt through the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, dinner, and a performance, they do a quick costume change into yet another jaw-dropping, but more casual look and disperse to any number of fabulous afterparties. This year was no exception, as the gala’s guests and many more attended a slew of exclusive events post-ball.

Earlier in the week, the Queen of the Met, Rihanna posted an announcement for her annual gala afterparty with the caption, “if you planning a MET Ball after party…………..don’t.” Needless to say, the event, which was held at Davide in the Meatpacking District, looked as amazing as the caption. The hostess arrived looking even more cool than on the carpet just a couple of hours earlier (if that’s even possible), sporting a tied black t shirt, a sheer black floor-length skirt with beaded embellishments, and a sheer beaded beanie. She was soon followed by the likes of A-list guests, including Brazilian superstar Anitta, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, and rising rap stars Lil Nas X and Megan thee Stallion.

Another of the most exclusive post-Met parties was hosted by Justin Bieber and Balenciaga at Cathédrale Restaurant at the Moxy Hotel in the East Village. The host arrived in an oversized black t-shirt, baggy cargo pants, and beanie, with wife Hailey Bieber, who sported a black minidress with tulle and feather adornments.

However, the most chic attendees were undeniably Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. The latter donned a strapless red Givenchy mini dress with a train and matching heels, while the former continued her love affair with Balenciaga in an all-black turtleneck body suit, with an attached skirt and large sunglasses. Inside the event, Bieber performed for friends and fans with a small band in a private concert to round out the evening.

Likewise, Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond, Kacey Musgraves, and LaQuan Smith threw afterparties of their own. Jean-Raymond’s was held at Junior’s Cheesecake in Brooklyn and was attended by the likes of Teyana Taylor, Jidenna, and Fabolous. The legendary rap star Lil’ Kim also made an appearance as the event’s surprise performer. Musgraves, on the other hand, held her soirée at the iconic NYC club, the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel in Chelsea. Her guests included co-chairs Timothée Chalamet and Billie Eilish, as well as singer Lorde and actress Julia Garner. Smith hosted a party not unlike a carnival under Kosciuszko Bridge, complete with a vegan burger truck, cupcake stations, and THC-infused shrimp cocktails. A$AP Ferg also made a welcome appearance as a surprise performer. Thus, with this slew of star-studded events and the near-infinite parade of chic looks, fashion’s biggest night most definitely lived up to the hype this year.
