Altuzarra returned to the NYFW runway with a beach-chic collection complete with shibori-dyed knits, earthy prints, crochet bra tops, swinging tassels, and big woven bags. The designer and founder Joseph Altuzarra discovered inspiration for his new collection in the book Wilder Mann by Charles Fréger and its images of pagan rituals that celebrate springtime and the seasonal cycles.
“I responded to the idea of finding magic and wonder and myth in nature. In our everyday life we get bogged down by details and minutiae,” said Altuzarra, his return to New York also driven by his feeling of intrinsic kinship with the city. “I wanted to be part of the rebuilding or rebirth.”
Clean tailoring, pleated metallics, and plush leather bring playful sophistication to the range, while models wore their hair knotted in small face-framing braids; their cheeks kissed with sunburnt blush.
“The overall feeling was one of nomadic freedom. From braiding to natural textures and movement, the different hair looks in the show speak to the collection’s effortless mood.”
