Naomi Campbell is once again lending her transcendental beauty to Burberry in what is, to her, a nod to her British roots and the distinctive style that has come about thanks to the British fashion scene. “Working with Burberry is […] always such an honour. It’s a British institution and has been since it started in 1856 – in a way, you feel like you’re representing your country. I feel that British style and attitude always lead the trends. We don’t just wear it, we live it,” said Campbell.
The supermodel worked in collaboration with Chief Creative Officer of Burberry and longtime friend Riccardo Tisci who, according to Campbell, “always has such a unique vision and continually manages to bring another facet out of me, pushing me to do things I don’t think I can do. It’s magical working with Riccardo.” Other collaborators for this campaign include photographer Danko Steiner, stylist Catherine Baba, make-up artist Adam Fleischhauer, hairstylist Jawara, and visual artist Frederik Heyman who was brought on for this particular project to bring the campaign vision to life with CGI.
The brand known for its signature plaid-lined trench coats is refreshingly summer-ready with their third iteration of the TB Summer Monogram collection, featuring bucket hats, shades of blue, and strappy tie-on triangle bikini tops styled with relaxed pants in a way that gives the illusion of midriff floss. Tisci spoke about this collection, saying that “the collection captures that optimistic feeling of summer and that feeling of constant momentum – the excitement for what’s next. And so, for the campaign, I couldn’t think of anyone better than my incredible friend Naomi Campbell.”
Steiner’s campaign imagery is a wonderful visual representation of the way our lives straddle digital and in-person reality with the fusion of traditional photography and CGI art. Campbell stands in minimalistic terrain that is vaguely coastal yet transcends categorizable geographical location. She and the collection are powerful, futuristic, light as air, and calm – everything that a summertime ode to the house’s founder Thomas Burberry should be.
