Who’s ready for an Aegean summer? Dior is, and so are we after seeing the Resort 2022 collection. As in, we’re packing our bags with Dior and buying a one-way ticket to Greece.
Set against the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens with temples of the Acropolis and the Parthenon rising in the distance, the collection is inspired by Greece and resulted in a perfectly summery ode to Hellenic history. Highlighting local savoir-faire and artisanal crafts, looks range from flowy white dresses to nautical pantsuits, creating a bit of an elegant nautical style at times.
Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri is the first female at the helm of the house, and she has been leading with a feminine flare that continues to be seen throughout her work for the house. For this collection, Chiuri aimed to create a collection that celebrates what it means to be a woman. To do so, she traveled all around Greece to research and uncover women’s contributions throughout time; she visited the Bronze Age ruins of the palace of Knossos and the Heraklion Archeological Museum on the island of Crete, the ruins of Akrotiri in Santorini, and Delphi all in an effort to note and honor the importance of women throughout history. Each piece of this collection is like something you’d imagine the Greek goddess Hera walking around in.
With the feminine, delicate, and airy dresses including necklines from strapless to shoulder cutouts, these pieces have us imagining ourselves tanning on the beaches of Santorini. The collection is full of whites and neutrals with bold pops of color via blue which just says Greece all over. It takes us from a day at the beach to an afternoon yachting to dinner to a night out.
The final dress of the collection looks to be inspired by a swan, which perfectly represents and encapsulates the evergreen beauty and elegance of these pieces.
