Escape takes on a whole new meaning after a year stuck inside. This season, Oscar de la Renta wants us to lean into opportunities to get away, however you can. Inspired by the beauty of the outdoors, this pre-spring glimpse energizes the spirits focusing on an escape from the virtual world we’ve been confined to for the past year.
The collection takes on the beauty of the outdoors in various ways: color, shape, form, and appliqué. Creative Director pair Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia utilize mesmerizing color play and an emphasis on movement and volume in materials that create the image of the elegant and oh-so-Oscar woman. Between gradient silk faille, delicate tulle, and three-dimensional sequin-filled fabric pieces, these pieces are super-showstoppers when making an entrance.
Elsewhere, floral prints that are scattered throughout the collection were created by New York-based landscape architect Miranda Brookshe. Sierra Nevada takes a powerful reflection in daywear and eveningwear with the work of mixed-media artist Ugo Rondinone’s mountainscapes.
Rich in the drama and wonder of nature, the collection is heavy on opulent gowns filled with high-feminine silhouettes that are celebratory and sweet as if an ode to Mother Nature herself. These contenders we’re sure to see on all the upcoming red carpets.
