During Viktor & Rolf’s Spring 2019 Haute Couture show, 18-year-old Tang He took the runway in a green tulle gown emblazoned with the words, “I am my own muse.” The sentiment was appropriate for the rising Chinese model, who began her runway career on the Dior Spring 2018 Haute Couture catwalk and has since appeared in over 30 shows. While she never dreamed of modeling growing up, she’s fully embraced the path that it’s taken her on. The model recently visited the CR office to fill us in on her journey to fashion’s top runways.

How did you get your start in modeling?
My mom was always worried about my grades and going to university, but then I started modeling. My mother agency [Elite Asia] found me when I was in school and I was so excited that there’s a chance I can be a model. I’m still growing, so I don’t know how tall I can get, but I really like modeling. I just think it’s very cool. I like wearing many beautiful clothes.”

What is your favorite part about modeling?
Being in shows with a lot of top models. I feel really grateful.”

Are there any models that you look up to?
Liu Wen—she’s from China. Before I became a model, I liked her very much. It’s such an honor to do the same shows with her.”

Where do you like to travel?
I like New York and Paris. New York is very busy and there’s lots of people. Paris is more comfortable. If went to Paris 20 years ago and then go to Paris 20 years from now, you’ll find that nothing’s changed. The buildings are still there. There are old ladies who sit and chat with each other in the afternoon and have dessert. I love Paris desserts. Some Chinese girls don’t like food from Europe or America, but I like all of it.”

Do you have a favorite dessert?
Cheesecake.”

What about a favorite food?
I miss my father’s cooking. Maybe it’s not my favorite, but I miss it a lot. I don’t know if I have a favorite. I love all the food.”

Do you have any hobbies?
I like Chinese classical dancing, and now sometimes I do Korean dancing. I’ll just put a video on and learn by myself because I don’t want to lose the practice.”

If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?
“After I model, I have a little dream to be a baker—to make cake and bread.”
