START body

From the small town of Palermo, Sicily, Giulia Maenza recently moved to New York City to expand her already impressive modeling portfolio. The 19-year-old has already walked for some of the industry’s top shows under DNA management, including Versace, Tod’s and Miu Miu. The stunning Sicilian is surely one to keep your eye on. CR sat down with Maenza
to discuss Italians morning routines and the one thing she absolutely can’t leave home without.

What has been your favorite part about living in New York so far?
„I love all the different fashion and the people that have come here with an open mind, because even in Italy, there are people who are very close-minded. I love the space of the city, the height of the buildings, but my favorite part is Central Park. I’ll go there and do my everyday run.“

Do you have a specific routine to get your day started?
I am so slow in the morning at first, and if I have a job, I like to wake up about two hours before. I’ll normally wake up and wash my face. I like to go to the gym in the morning, rather than later because it helps me wake up, and then I’ll meet go some friends or head to a job.“

What do you do in your free time when you’re not modeling?
I love movies and I’m the type of person who can stay at home all day. I am going to the cinema in a few days, so I’m excited about that.“

What has been the most exciting moment of your career so far?
„My first show had to be the greatest. That stays in your heart forever. When I started, I was like, I am going to get no one. There’s all these beautiful models from the U.S. Then, one summer break, my agent called me and told me I got Versace, but at first I didn’t even realize it. Versace is one of the biggest shows with all the supermodels: there was Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima, so it was amazing.

What are three things that you can’t live without in your bag when you’re working?
„The first thing I always have with me everywhere, even if I am just going to the gym, is lip balm. My lips get so dry. I just bought another one, though I have tons in my home. I always have my passport, even in Italy where I don’t need it.“

Do you have a particular style?
„It depends more on how I feel. Black is always my color though. I’m also really into earrings and rings. In New York, there are a lot of flea markets. They’re so amazing and you can find a lot of stuff. I’m super happy about it.“
