Closing a runway show is a highlight of any model’s career. She’s the one to watch, on everyone’s mind after the spectacle finishes, and often rocks the most exciting look of the evening. Dipti Sharma, known for her bowl cut, razor-sharp cheekbones and strong chin, made her runway debut this past season as an exclusive for Balenciaga, and closed for one of the most talked-about brands of the year. CR caught up with the Indian beauty to ask about career advice, Balenciaga’s casting in India, and how she laughs her way through life.

How were you discovered?
My agency in India after sending in my polaroids. My friend had told me it was the only agency in India who could take me to an international level. I tried my luck and they signed me.

What’s been your favorite modeling moment so far?
Closing the Balenciaga show was a dream come true. Not only because they are a powerhouse brand, but also because they came to India the year prior to scout for their show and I missed the casting. Debuting there was like a dream.

What model or celebrity do you most look up to?
I admire many people, from Gisele [Bündchen] to Edward Enninful, Adwoa Aboah, Karlie Kloss, and so many more in the industry. They are not only models and fashion influencers, but also activists. I consider myself to be an intellectual person, so I appreciate understanding what is going on in the world outside of fashion, and everyone’s values and hardships. These people started from scratch, and have made themselves into household names. It’s so inspirational.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Never take anything too seriously, and always give your best. Live life immersed in laughter, gratitude, and happiness, and success will follow on its own.

What is your beauty routine and have you learned any beauty tips backstage?
I always moisturize my face and body, and I prefer to use organic products that are water-based. A major beauty tip from backstage: ALWAYS remove your makeup before going to bed!

What does a perfect day look like to you?
It would involve spending quality time with my family and having time to meditate.

What’s next? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’m not sure! I live and work in the present, for the future. I just want to be happy and successful.
