Feel good and smell better thanks to Louis Vuitton’s new fragrances, Les Extraits Collection, in collaboration with famed architect Frank Gehry. While Louis Vuitton’s Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud created the scents, Gehry created the bottle, and the two came together for this latest collection.

Gehry, whose work includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Dancing House in Prague, and of course, Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, married form and function to build an architecturally captivating bottle.

“We wanted to create something that elicits emotion. That brings a sensation to life. That when you look at it, you say, “Oh!” Then when you smell it, you say, “Ah!” said Gehry.

This collection includes five scents: Dancing Blossom, Cosmic Cloud, Rhapsody, Symphony, and Stellar Times. Each one aims to capture the freedom, independence, and joy of exploration, whether that’s self-exploration or going out and seeing the world. Belletrud revisited classic scents — florals, ambers — to create a set of smells that range from fresh and floral to warm and leathery.

As Instagram shelfies and styling fragrances on vanity tables continue to have a hold on us, the aesthetic of a perfume bottle is as important as ever. By tapping Gehry, Louis Vuitton has presented a line of scents that’s as satisfying to wear as it is to look at.

He’s known for his use of postmodern and unusual shapes, often turning up in the form of curves and arcs. This bottle is no different. Its comfortable shape makes it ergonomically easy to hold while still keeping its beauty. The cap is reminiscent of a bird about to take flight or a flower opening up: both exude that feeling of metamorphosis and eagerness to see what’s new.

“I imagined scents before smelling them,” said Belletrud. “It’s an intensification of emotions. Of character. The kind inherent in perfumes that linger on the skin without disturbing.”

Dancing Blossom is floral-forward, featuring notes of jasmine, rose and tuberose. Cosmic Cloud is more earthy and musky, with poppy and bergamot. Rhapsody is a floral yet woodsy scent, including ylang ylang, lily of the valley, and yerba mate. Symphony is musky yet fruity with notes of bergamot and grapefruit. And lastly, Stellar Times is an amber, leathery scent including balsam.

To celebrate the collection, Louis Vuitton held an event at their Rodeo Drive location in Beverly Hills.
