As lockdown orders temper and we all haltingly reemerge from our homes, the general consensus seems that we do so with the gall to approach even the meanest of beauty trends. Steeling our way through the lull of spring set to reemerge this summer with French tips, curtain bangs, and even…copper-colored locks.
Post-pandemic “it really runs the gamut,” said NYC-salon owners Mark Debolt and Ryan Trygstad. Clients have gone “really experimental with their color. They want to have a peach-colored money piece put in the front, or they want their hair colored blue, or purple, or pink.”
And while the throes of isolation teamed with the beauty boom and a modish influx of content creators have certainly stemmed a more fervent approach to euphoria palettes and half-moon manicures, hair color has long awaited its upgrade.
Portraying her role as Beth Harmon in the Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy was a first mover into the warm, brassy picante shades of today, a seminal dye that would soon find Rosalía, Isamaya Ffrench, SZA, Gigi Hadid, and Lizzo all tinting their locks.
“Gingers and red suit everyone,” said Alex Brownsell, co-founder and creative director of Bleach London. And so undeniably, whether it’s Rosalía’s pigtails, hedged in curtain bangs and a sole strand of braids, or SZA’s swath of fiery fro, a tender honey hue seems unanimously the shade of the moment.
